The MorningSnapshot- 08/07

Sentiment is higher with the benchmark European equity index reaching a four-month high, commodities gaining, and both the USD and Yen are declining on the day. S&P 500 futures were trading +0.393% slightly before market open, the Euro Stoxx 50 was up +1.21%, and equities in Asia closed modestly higher. Sovereign debt spreads to bunds were tighter on the day, as Germany’s 10yr climbed +7.4bps to 1.467%.

Sentiment is mixed around the globe this morning as investors react to Monti’s warnings out of Italy, and better-than-estimated corporate earnings in the U.S. Nearly 73% of S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings have beaten analysts’ earnings estimates, although 59% did miss sales projections. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +1.4%, the S&P 500 trading +0.5% higher, and the Nikkei closed up +2%. Commodities are mostly modestly lower on the day, and the 10yr U.S. benchmark Treasury is trading at 1.55%.
