The MorningSnapshot- 03/27

Treasuries are rising, trimming their largest monthly drop in over a year, and the dollar is strengthening against 10 of its 19 peers. European stocks, U.S. equity futures, and commodities were all little changed this morning before a report that is forecast to show U.S. consumer confidence slipped this month. The 10yr Treasury was down -2bps to 2.23%, bringing its monthly gain to +25bps.

Treasuries are lower, led down by the long end of the curve, after last week’s gains. Commodities are mostly higher, and globally equities are mixed coming up on trading hours in New York. S&P 500 futures are up +0.485%, the Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.17%, and the Nikkei 225 closed almost even on the day +0.07%. The 10yr Treasury is advancing this morning, up +4.7bps to 2.278%; euro-area sovereign debt costs are rising on the day, led by Greece’s 10yr up +39.5bps.

Sentiment is looking fairly ugly this morning, with Asia’s benchmark index closing at its biggest weekly loss this year, the Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.86% led by Spain’s IBEX 35 which is trading at -1.39%, and S&P futures are pointing slightly lower. The 10yr Treasury is lower by -3bps to 2.244%, and the Merrill Lynch MOVE Index, and indication of Treasury market volatility, is lower by -6bps since Wednesday’s recent high of 92bps. European sovereign spreads to German Bunds are higher this morning; Bunds are now down -4bps on the day to 1.864%. The dollar is down on the day, but is off its lows of the morning.
